Morphology

Stem
Erect, unbranched, glandular-hairy.
Leaves
Leaves reduced to scales.
Inflorescence
Terminal, 1-3-flowered; bracts not leafy, brown.
Flower
Pedicels .2 to 1 inch; calyx campanulate, .25 to .33 inch, lobes triangular-lanceolate; corolla white to lavender or purple, .6 to .8 inch, throat hairy within, 2 lipped, lower lobes 3, projecting or spreading, upper lobes 2, projecting or spreading; stamens 4; filaments glabrous or pubescent, anthers glabrous or woolly; pistil 1.
Fruit
Capsules, ellipsoid, .28 to .4 inch; seeds tan to brown, ellipsoid to nearly spherical, less than .01 inch.

Comments

Orobanche, vetch + to strangle and uniflora one + flower. The plants lack chlorophyll and are parasitic on the roots of other plants.
