Morphology

Stem
Slender, glabrous.
Leaves
Basal leaves compound, 3 principal segments each of which is divided into 3 segments, elliptic to round, .2 to 1.4 inch long; tips with 3 shallow lobes; on wiry stalks 1.2 to 5.6 inches long; leaves of flowering stem 2 or 3, opposite or whorled, compound in 3s, forming involucre, leaflets similar in size and shape to basal leaflets.

Umbel of 1-several flowers, terminal.
Flower
Mostly regular, 1/3 to 1 inch across; sepals 5-8, thin, petal-like, white or pink, 1/6 to 1/2 inch long; petals absent; stamens numerous.
Fruit
Cluster of achenes, 1/3 to 1/2 inch wide; achenes spindle-shaped, circular in cross-section, less than 1/5 inch long, deeply grooved; 1-seeded.

Habitat
Open woods and wooded hillsides.
Distribution
East 1/5 of Kansas.
