Morphology

Stem
Plants glabrous. Stems erect, branched.
Leaves
Alternate or proximal opposite to subopposite; blade gray-green abaxially, dark green adaxially, not glaucous, ovate to lanceolate or linear-lanceolate, .6 to 1.6 inches long, .28 to .6 inch wide, not fleshy, margins entire, base clasping or auricled, rounded to subcordate.
Inflorescence
Axillary, 1-2-flowered. Pedicels 0 to .12 inch.
Flower
Dimorphic, radially symmetric; hypanthium narrowly obconic, .16 to .28 inch; calyx lobes 6, triangular, alternating with 6 attenuate appendages about 2 times as long as calyx lobes; petals 6, purple or purplish pink, obovate, .12 to .28 inch, appearing crumpled; stamens 6; pistil 1; style 1; stigma 1.
Fruit
Capsules membranous, cylindric, outer wall smooth. Seeds numerous, reddish brown, .02 to .03 inch.
