Morphology
- Stem
- Erect, simple or branched. Plants glabrous or nearly so.
- Leaves
- Cauline, alternate, simple; stipules present; blades ovate to triangular-ovate, 1.2 to 7 inches long, .8 to 6 inches wide, base cordate to truncate, margins hastately 3-5-lobed and serrate, tip acute to acuminate.
- Inflorescence
- Solitary flowers, axillary; involucel bracts 8-16, linear, .8 to 1.2 inch.
- Flower
- Calyx campanulate, .8 to 1.2 inch, remaining green, glabrous or nearly so, lobes 5, triangular, connate basally, apex acute; corolla funnelform, petals 5, pink or white, with red basal spot, obovate, 2.4 to 3 inches long, .8 to 2 inches wide: staminal column bearing anthers along sides and at summit, forming tube around pistil.

- Capsules ovoid, .7 to 1.2 inch, glabrous; seeds brown or reddish brown, reniform-globose, .1 to .2 inch.
