Morphology
- Stem
- Erect, slender, few to several, branched from bases, stiff hairy or sometimes glabrous.
- Leaves
- Alternate, slender-stalked, triangular to ovate, 1 to 4 inches long, 1 to 3 inches wide, incised or palmately 5 to 7-divided, basal leaves less deeply lobed.
- Inflorescence
- Solitary or small clusters of flowers, terminal, on stalks to 4 inches long, stalks often bent above middle.
- Flower
- Calyces 5-parted, lobes triangular to lanceolate, 3-nerved; tips pointed; corollas pale pink or white, .75 to 1.75 inch wide; petals 5, .5 to 1 inch long, overlapping somewhat; tips often fringed; stamens numerous, united into column.
- Fruit
- Rings of 10-15 beaked, 1-seeded segments; seeds tiny, smooth, dark.

- Dry rocky or sandy sites.
- Distribution
- Principally east half of Kansas.
