Morphology
- Stem
- Erect, simple or loosely clustered, branching in upper 1/2 to 2/3, mostly glabrous, often sticky.
- Leaves
- Alternate, thick, firm; basal and lower stem leaves drop early; persistent stem leaves numerous, sessile, entire, linear or linear-lanceolate, 1.5 to 3.5 inches long, less than 1/3 inch wide, densely glandular-dotted, 1 prominent vein; margins rough; tip gradually tapering to slender point.
- Inflorescence
- Corymb-like, broad, more or loss flat-topped; heads numerous, mostly sessile, in small clusters.
- Flower
- Involucre to 1/4 inch tall; bracts overlapping, blunt, inner ones pointed, straw-colored; ray florets 5-20, yellow, to 1/10 inch long; disk florets about 1/2 as many as rays.
- Fruit
- Achenes, short-hairy, several-nerved, tipped with numerous white bristles, enclosing small seed.

- Habitat
- Rocky upland prairies and roadsides; open, drying sites; sandy or rocky soils.
- Distribution
- Throughout Kansas.
