Morphology

Stem
Erect, branched or unbranched, minutely pubescent.
Leaves
Cauline, opposite proximally, sub-opposite or alternate distally, simple; blade lanceolate, 2 to 4 inches long, 1.2 to 1.6 inches wide, margins pinnately lobed, sometimes serrate to entire on distal leaves.
Inflorescence
Terminal, racemes or panicles, 2 to 16 inches; bracts leafy proximally, green.
Flower
Calyx radially symmetric, bell-shaped, .4 to .6 inch; corolla yellow, 1.4 to 1.8 inch, tube 1.2 to 1.6 inch, throat glabrous, limb weakly 2-lipped, bell-shaped, lower lobes 3, spreading, upper lobes 2, spreading; stamens 4, 2 longer than others; filaments and anthers villous; pistil 1; style 1; stigma 1.
Fruit
Capsule, ovoid to ellipsoid, .6 to .8 inch; seeds brown, angular, .06 to .1 inch.

Comments

Members of this genus generally are root-parasites of oaks. The herbage often turns black upon drying. Aureolaria golden and possession, alluding to corolla and grandiflora large and flower.
