Stems: Stems erect, simple or branched above. Plants cobweb-pubescent to tomentose.
Leaves: Alternate, simple, 4 to 16+ inches, margins entire or unequally pinnately 3-5-lobed, lobes linear.
Inflorescences: Compact spike-like thyrses
Flowers: Pedicels short; calyx ovoid, lobes 5, 1/25 to 1/12 inch, pubescent; corolla white, salverform, 5-lobed; tube 1/5 to 2/5 inch, lobes narrowly lanceolate, 1/12 to 1/5 inch; stamens 5, fused unequally in upper part of corolla tube; style 1; stigmas 3.
Fruits: Capsules ellipsoid, 1/8 to 1/5 inch; seeds lens-shaped to boat-shaped, ca. 1/10 inch.
Habitat: Sandy to gravelly shortgrass prairies
Distribution: West 1/5 of Kansas
